Abstract
Rio de Janeiro has natural singularities that define its evolution. Facing the entrance to Guanabara Bay, the city grew from there as the center of political power – the capital of the Vice Kingdom, the Kingdom, the Empire, and the Republic. Historical and geographical circumstances have imprinted particularities on its territorial organization.
