Abstract

To answer this question, the IBGE and the REFORSUS program of the Ministry of Health added a supplementary health survey to the 1998 PNAD (National Household Sample Survey) to deepen the limited understanding of health service consumption in the country. This work aims to detail health information for the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region (RMRJ), the second-largest urban hub in the country, with an estimated population of 10.4 million inhabitants. The population is concentrated in a condominium with the diversities inherent to a set of nineteen municipalities, some of which are quite recent and practically created by force in the wave of emancipations that swept the country during the 1990s. All the analyses here are based on twelve data tables for the RMRJ provided on the IBGE website.
